A standout baseball player for the Yellowjackets in 1971, Federle left UW-Superior and embarked on a 30-plus year career in education, coaching, and community service in his hometown of Springfield, Pennsylvania. 

A 32-year teacher, Federle also coached at the middle school level and volunteered with numerous youth baseball associations. In addition to teaching and coaching, Federle also lent his expertise to Springfield Student Council, the Springfield Planning Commission, and sat on the board of directors for the Springfield Swim Club.
