The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host 85 talented high school singers from throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota for a performance of the first half of Mozart’s Requiem.

“Chorfest is unique among high school honor festivals because it allows students to perform large choral and orchestral works with an orchestra consisting of some of the best musicians in the Twin Ports,” said Michael Fuchs, UW-Superior director of choral activities. “This is an opportunity that is not available in many high schools and smaller communities, and we are thrilled to provide an avenue through which students from the region can experience this wonderful music.”

Chorfest participants, along with 18 UW-Superior singers, will perform the first half of Mozart’s Requiem. The concert will also feature UW-Superior Chorale and Singers performing works by William Byrd, Arvo Pärt, and Shawn Kirchner.

“Mozart’s Requiem is one of the greatest choral and orchestral masterworks written,” said Fuchs. “It is a piece with a tremendous amount of depth, beauty, and spirituality. The UWS Chorus and Orchestra performed the entire work last spring. This was a great opportunity to sing this immortal piece with area high school vocalists.”
