Cultivating Compassionate Communication

FRIDAY, JANUARY 31, 2020, 8 AM - 4 PM

Location: Yellowjacket Union Room 203

Learning the art of Compassionate Communication can give you the tools to have those difficult conversations in ways that strengthen rather than strain relationships. Nonviolent Compassionate Communication (NVC), an internationally recognized communication model, can help you both personally and professionally to reduce stress, transform conflict, improve relationships, and create deeper self-awareness through learning to speak and listen with empathy and compassionate authenticity.

Session 1: Introduction to Compassionate Communication – Learning the Language

Has a conversation ever left you feeling frustrated and wondering, “What was that? What just happened here?” This workshop will introduce you to the essentials of the NVC language and help develop your skills in listening and speaking with heartfelt empathy, allowing you to sort out the real issues in tough conversations and choose a more mindful response. You will leave the day with seven key NVC tools to help you navigate, respond and transform stressful situations.

Session 2: Advancing Your Compassionate Communication Skills – Making the Language Your Own

It may be easy to see what’s going on when someone else is being criticized, but what about when it’s you? How will you respond? Build on the basics you learned in Session 1 by developing deeper self-awareness into your own triggers and responses to hard-to-hear messages. Practice with familiar scenarios (including your own, if you wish), learning to listen and talk NVC using your own everyday language.

Both sessions are highly engaging and interactive. Everyone will have a chance to talk and to listen. We encourage you to bring an Empathy Buddy, someone with whom you will continue to learn and practice after the training.  Your Buddy can register with you for ½ price.  Group discounts may also be available.  Please call 715.394-8469 for more information.
