Engaging Creative Expression to Build Social Connections and Improve Health

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 21, 2019, 8:30 AM - 12 PM

Location: Swenson Hall 2004

You don’t have to be an artist or a musician to engage others in these forms of creative expression! Learn how creativity stimulates the brain, warms the heart, and facilitates connections, leading to improved mental and physical health and over-all well-being. You will leave this hands-on workshop prepared to incorporate many means of creativity into your work.
Participants will
• Gain knowledge of art therapy directives to use with elders through hands-on exploration.
• Be able to consider the implications of social isolation in how they approach using selected art and poetry interventions with appointed volunteers. By volunteers do you mean the older adults they are working with who volunteer to participate? Or?
• Be able to Identify 3-5 (or some other number) sources of art and poetry resources to use to integrate into planning to engage elders who have needs in the community.
