Learn@UW-Superior (D2L) Tools

You may ask "I do not feel comfortable with technology. How shall I get started with using technology in the classes I teach?" The answer for you is "Try Learn@UW-Superior (D2L) today." Learn@UW-Superior (D2L) is the web-based Learning Management System (LMS) readily available for us and officially supported by the UW System. Each semester, all UW-Superior undergraduate courses with 3 or more students enrolled and most graduate courses receive a “course shell” for you to use.  Log in to view them at:

Learn@UW-Superior (D2L) Tools

  • News allows you to post class updates and announcements to the Course Home page
  • Content area for displaying syllabi, course assignments, and instructional materials in text, image, video, and .pdf formats
  • Checklist allows you to highlight important assignments, readings, or other items for your students to complete
  • Discussion board section for facilitating student-to-student and faculty-to-student communication
  • Classlist showing all registered students and enabling quick group e-mails to all students in a single course
  • Group tool for creating discussion/dropbox groups and enrolling group members
  • Chat room you can set up for one-on-one “office visits” or group chats
  • Attendance allows you to create registers that track attendance for activities within your course                 
  • Dropbox allowing students to turn in assignment files via simple drag-and-drop for your review and feedback plus the newly added plagiarism detection (Turnitin) feature
  • Quizzes section with multiple answer formats
  • Grades section that can calculate and show individual students their grades privately as the semester progresses
  • Competencies and Rubrics are used together to generate an assessment of the students’ knowledge
  • Survey tool to obtain, calculate, and display information from your students
  • Online Rooms tool allows you to host live interactive online web conferences with the students using audio, webcam, a virtual whiteboard you can write or draw on, PowerPoint and more. It’s an excellent “Virtual Office”, online tutoring and advising tool as well.
  • Kaltura multimedia tool allows you to upload images, audios and videos to your personal Kaltura account and easily to share them in your courses. You can create your own video presentation and record your computer screen with Kaltura as well.

2. Learn@UW-Superior Online Student Guide provides detailed instructions on how to use different tools to complete academic assignments for the students.
