About

Angela Wood was born and raised in Duluth, MN. Being close to family is important, so she and her husband are raising their two daughters near her childhood home. When not teaching, she can be found somewhere in the Northwoods enjoying every moment with family and friends. Each season offers a new adventure of hunting, fishing, skiing, mountain biking, and hiking. Although an epic journey is always fun, a cozy spot near a crackling fire holding a cup of coffee and a book is welcomed too!

Professional Background

Angela has spent the last fifteen years teaching at an Environmental Charter School in rural Duluth. She has spent time teaching Special Education, Fifth Grade, First Grade, Fifth/Sixth Grade Literacy, and most recently Third through Sixth Grade Distance Learning. Her personal teaching philosophy continues to evolve through experience and constant reflection. As an educator she spends time getting to know each student and uses that as a platform to create dynamic, engaging, and active lessons that meet the needs of each individual learning style all while building a community of lifelong learners.

Research Interests

A continued interest of Angela’s is Environmental Education/EE, Environmental Integrated Curriculum/EIC and Place Based Learning. Having taught at an Environmental Charter School, she has witnessed first-hand the immense value in using our natural world in everyday teaching and learning and is excited to incorporate these philosophies into higher education. She believes that these philosophies enhance the educator’s ability to differentiate the subject being taught to benefit each and every learner.

A new interest of Angela’s is Pedagogy versus Andragogy. Her career has focused on developing her own personal pedagogy and through professional development opportunities the idea of andragogy intrigues her. The value of understanding every learner still applies, but with a focus on adult learners where our prior experiences guide us and we can first focus on the process of teaching and then the content. She looks forward to continued research on this topic in the higher education setting.
