Anne Robertson

About
Outside of school, Anne enjoys cross-stitch, reading, exercising, getting out into nature, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Anne is a military spouse with an active duty husband and has a preschool age son.
Professional Background
Anne has worked and taught in four states as an early childhood teacher, elementary teacher, reading specialist, library media specialist, special education and pupil personnel services director and school administrator. Anne believes that effective learning is active, with students engaging in learning that uses all of their senses to make meaning of the world around them. The classroom is a place for both students and teachers to learn through inquiry and engage in activities that promote collaborative learning. Anne believes that the classroom is a space that should be supportive and welcoming to all, and creates a sense of mutual respect. She believes that each student is an individual and therefore uses multiple teaching styles and perspectives to fit the needs of students. She aims to create a community of learners who are critical thinkers and take ownership of their learning. Anne is a proponent of including hands-on (multi-sensory) and real world experience in her classes and promotes collaboration within the community.
Research Interests
Anne’s research interests have primarily been in the preschool-kindergarten classroom looking at how students gain concept of word knowledge. She is currently participating in the UWS 2020-2021 SOTL project researching the perceptions and influences of peer reviews in the creation of lesson plans.
