Beth Austin chose teaching as a profession and nontraditional students for a focus because she was in the 4th grade when her mom graduated from nursing school. Austin continues to be inspired by her students who take care of others while working so hard to provide a more secure future for their families.

Austin holds a MA and MFA from Northwestern University in Radio/Television/Film with an interdisciplinary certificate in Telecommunications Science, Policy and Management. She produces media for the web, commercials, and documentaries.

Austin's work has screened on WDSE, WDIO, and at film festivals.

Topics will include: the historical background of various movements in documentary, formal elements of key documentary styles, the political implications of documentaries, and ethical problems of documentary making.
