About 

Daniel enjoys hiking and biking on trails in the Twin Ports region.  His hobbies include drawing and oil painting, as well as photographing all modes of transportation.

Professional Background

Before coming to UW-Superior, Dr. Rust served as Assistant Director of the Center for Transportation Studies and Assistant Teaching Professor of Marketing/Logistics and Operations Management in the College of Business Administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL).  He founded and developed the undergraduate Transportation Studies program at UMSL. 

Research Interests

Dr. Rust's research interests span all modes of transportation. Some of his past research includes investigating use of video event data recorders (EDR) in private fleet vehicles; creating an inventory of transportation and logistics providers in Missouri; and surveying Class I railroad female operations employees. The University of Oklahoma Press published his first book, "Flying Across America: the Airline Passenger Experience," in 2009. He is the author of "AEP River Operations: Legacy of Excellence," and is the co-editor of a three-volume set, "Readings in Modern Railroad Management." His most recent book, "The Aerial Crossroads of America: St. Louis’s Lambert Airport," was one of three finalists in the “Regional Non-Fiction: Midwest” category of the 11th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards in 2017.  Articles by Daniel Rust have appeared in publications such as Enterprise and Society, Business and Economic History, and the International Journal of Revenue Management.
