Associate Professor, Sociology; Department Chair Social Inquiry
office. SWEN 3086
University of Wisconsin - Superior

Eric Edwards focuses on the connections between human activity and environmental degradation, the effects of inequality on all social institutions, and the ongoing critical theoretical development of sociology. These themes are present in the classes he teaches. His overall goals in the classroom are: 1) to turn complex sociological concepts into real-life applications; 2) to change how you think about the world via use of the "sociological imagination."

Dr. Edwards received his doctoral degree from the University of Oregon in 2009. He has been at UW-Superior since Fall 2010. His academic interests are in environmental sociology, social class, and the teaching and learning of sociology. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the effects of race and class inequality on how long people breastfeed their infants. If you want to know more about this topic, please ask him!

In his leisure time, Eric loves hunting for wild mushrooms, making his own beer, looking at the stars, spending time with his family, tending his garden, reading (and sometimes writing) fiction and poetry, hiking in the woods, being a sociologist, and listening to a lot of heavy metal and punk rock.
