Professional Background

Gloria Eslinger is a Professor specializing in Art Therapy and Director of Art Therapy Programming. A registered Art Therapist under American Art Therapy Association, she brings thirteen years of professional experience in the mental health field in private practice to her teaching. She has been in practice as an Art Therapist in the Superior, Wisconsin community in a research based program, (Child Development Project), serving a population of children in need ages three to five using art therapy since 2013. Dedicated and passionate about the field, Ms. Eslinger continues to serve all who are interested in learning about the power personal expression as a means for self-empowerment.

Research Interests

Gloria believes art is a method to communicate with my audience in the most direct and immediate way. She is a tactile artist. She creates with traditional mediums, but will shake them free of their conventional milieu to create something unexpected. In the case of the medium of stained glass, many early windows obscured natural light because the methods to produce sheets of glass were primitive, and glass was restricted to small pieces held by heavy pieces of lead, called caning. Her work, utilizing modern techniques, allows the medium of colored glass to appear lighter, break boundaries and transform spaces. As an Art Therapist Gloria utilizes visual arts with people who are unable to express themselves through the conventional mediums of speech and language. She views her work as a facilitator, creating safe spaces for people to connect with themselves and thereby reconnect to their community.
