Nathan LaCoursiere

Senior Lecturer Nathan N. LaCoursiere joins the Legal Studies and Criminal Justice Program after practicing for seven years as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Duluth and, before that, as an associate attorney with the Duluth law firm of Hanft Fride, P.A. As a public attorney, Mr. LaCoursiere handled all affirmative and defensive civil litigation for the city, including all state and federal constitutional and civil rights litigation. He is a recipient of Duluth’s 20 Under 40 Award and Minnesota Lawyer’s 2014 Up and Coming Attorney Award for his role in prosecuting and ending the sale of synthetic drugs at the former downtown Duluth head shop known as the Last Place on Earth. On March 1, 2019, he was appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to a four-year term as an At-Large Member of the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection, which reviews and recommends to the governor candidates for appointment to statewide trial, administrative or appellate judicial vacancies.
Mr. LaCoursiere received his B.A., English, with distinction and honors, from the University of Minnesota-Morris, and his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable David R. Minge at the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
