Assistant Professor, Special Education

POSITION:

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Special Education, Department of Education

DUTIES:

  • Full responsibility for teaching 12 credits per semester of special education courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in online (15 and 7 week terms) and on-campus (15 week terms)
  • Advise students in special education program
  • Supervise clinical experiences in special education program
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction regarding preparation of special education teachers
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with area schools, communities, and alumni
  • Serve on university committees
  • Provide departmental service
  • Develop and maintain visibility in the state, region, and nation through participation in professional conferences and other discipline-related and scholarly activities
  • Perform other departmental duties as assigned by the chair
  • Provide an on-campus presence to meet with and to serve students, and to work with colleagues in the department and across campus to fulfill service roles.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in special education or closely related field
  • Three years K-12 teaching experience in special education
  • At least two years active engagement in professional practice with K-12 schools within the past five years.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience working with any of the diverse identities and experiences (cultural, heritage, racial, ethnic, gender, religious, socioeconomic, varying abilities, etc.) representing our campus community.
  • Experience teaching at least two online courses within the past 5 years
  • Demonstrated participation in a continuous improvement process within in the past 5 years.
  • Membership and/or leadership role in state and/or national professional organizations
  • Demonstration via CV of a research agenda
  • Serving as instructor for at least two university level courses

The successful candidate will be dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to the public liberal arts mission and to quality teaching and learning methods. Willingness and interest in utilizing technology in the classroom strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be committed to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills.
