Power Plant Operator-Senior, Facilities Management, 100%




This position will operate a variety of equipment in the Halbert Heating Plant which operates 24 hours a day, year round.It is responsible for the operation of the gas and coal fired boilers, various pumps, motors, aircompressors, etc., during the assigned shift operation.It will perform a variety of duties, to include monitor, maintain, and repair power plant equipment.This position performs under the general supervision of the Power Plant Superintendent.

Position Description


The applicant must have the ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb and stretch to read gauges,operate valves and perform other related duties. Must be able to read gauges,thermometers and sight glasses, work an 8 hours shift, alone, in large industrial steam plant setting. Must be able to climb stairs and overhand ladders, enter manhole and exit same via overhand ladders, enter and work inconfined spaces. Must be able to swing a sledge hammer and be able to lift up to 50 pounds and to shovel coal or debris. General custodial and building maintenance knowledge, knowledge of the operation of coal, gas, and oil firedsteam boilers, coal and ash handling equipment, water pumps, steam turbines, pressure gauges, temperature gauges, flow meters, load centers, and switchboards. Knowledge of water testing and water treatment.

Pay will be based on the rules that apply to compensation upon transfer, reinstatement, or voluntary demotion transactions.Starting pay will be no less than the minimum salary for pay range 03-15 (currently $19.106 per hour). A six month probationary period may be required.


Varying Days, 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM (40 hrs per week)
