Senior Lecturer, Nautral Sciences


The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Superior is seeking an ecologist to fill an annually renewable senior instructor position beginning August 2020. The successful candidate will provide excellent undergraduate instruction, incorporate current techniques in teaching and research, and work collaboratively to strengthen the Department’s biology and environmental science programs. Applicants should have a commitment to undergraduate education, and be capable of advising students on senior-year, research experiences. 


  • Teach an Ecology course to biology and environmental science majors, upper-division electives in the candidate’s expertise, and an introductory course(s) for non-science majors in line with our liberal arts foundation.
  • Teach courses in both face-to-face and online formats
  • Advise biology and environmental sciences majors, which includes mentoring students with research projects and internships.
  • Provide service to the University and community through participation in departmental and university committees as appropriate. 


  • Earned at least a master’s degree in biology or a related discipline by August 31, 2020.
  • Evidence of teaching experience at the college level.
  • An academic and/or professional research background in ecology.


  • Earned a PhD in biology or a related discipline
  • Experience or commitment to best practices in teaching and learning, including active-learning styles and inclusive excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students on research projects and internships in biology and environmental sciences, which could include research projects sponsored by the applicant
  • Experience or interest in developing and delivering courses in online and alternative delivery formats
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience collaborating across disciplines, including the broader community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to the public liberal arts mission and to quality teaching and learning methods. Willingness and interest in utilizing technology in the classroom strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be committed to the highest ethical standards and demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork skills.
