Student Involvement Awards

The Student Involvement Awards Reception is held at the end of each academic year as a way to honor and recognize UW-Superior students and student organizations. The variety of awards highlight the leadership and contributions the nominees have made to campus life.

In addition to the awards below presented by the Department of Student Involvement, several other awards and scholarship recipients are honored at the reception.

Outstanding Emerging Leader

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a student leader(s) who has taken the initiative to become actively involved in campus activities* and has shown progressive growth in his/her leadership abilities.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award demonstrates some or all of the following:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Superior
  • Taken the initiative to become actively involved within a campus activity*.
  • Shown significant, progressive growth in his/her leadership skills and/or consistent and apparent implementation of his/her leadership abilities/skills.
  • Ongoing commitment to serving the campus community.
  • A positive role model for his/her peers and the campus community.
  • Commitment to take his/her leadership skills and abilities to the next level.

Outstanding Student Leader

This award honors a student leader who has contributed significantly to the quality of campus life through his/her involvement and leadership in campus activities*.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award demonstrates some or all of the following:

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Superior
  • Shown ongoing involvement and leadership in campus activities*.
  • Shown consistent and effective implementation of his/her leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of campus life through his/her leadership.
  • Pursued new opportunities to grow in his/her leadership skills.
  • Inspired and motivates others through his/her example.
  • Assisted other students in their development as leaders.

Evolving Student Organization

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a recognized student organization that has demonstrated significant growth in the areas of membership development, program development, and/or overall campus involvement over the past year.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award demonstrated some or all of the following:

  • Created an inviting, inclusive atmosphere through recruitment practices.
  • Effectively involved all members of the group in decisions, programs, meetings and events.
  • Provided training, development, and/or education for its members.
  • Held campus programs that actively support their mission.
  • Implemented campus programs that are well organized and highly promoted.
  • Worked effectively and in collaboration with others in the campus community.

Advisor of the Year

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a faculty/staff advisor of a recognized student organization that has provided outstanding support, guidance, and direction to the student organization and its members.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award demonstrated some or all of the following:

  • Demonstrated awareness of the purpose and activities of the organization through attendance at meetings and/or frequent consultation with leaders.
  • Acted as a source of general information regarding campus policies and procedures.
  • Encouraged the growth and development of the organization members.
  • Guided, while at the same time, allowed freedom for organization members to plan and coordinate their own activities and programs.
  • Encouraged organization members to assume responsibility for their actions and the effectiveness of their programs.
  • Provided technical or professional knowledge relevant to the organization.
  • Provided continuity and assists with new officer transition.
  • Assisted the organization in determining realistic goals and evaluates their progress toward those goals.
  • Supported the organization's mission and provides a quality learning experience.
  • Supported organizational activities and accomplishments.

Community Service Award

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a recognized student organization that has made significant contributions to the campus and/or community through volunteerism, service, or social activism.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award has offered service that:

  • Was student initiated, directed and implemented.
  • Responded to a demonstrated need at the campus, community or global level.
  • Promoted student engagement, awareness, and education throughout the campus community.
  • Accomplished its intended goals/learning outcomes.
  • Was well-received by recipients.
  • Was delivered with good will and enthusiasm.

And shows an ongoing commitment to volunteerism, service or social activism.

Inclusive Excellence Award

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a recognized student organization that has demonstrated and sustained a passion for the advancement of diversity and inclusion.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award demonstrated some or all of the following:

  • A commitment to the advancement of diversity and inclusion.
  • Pursued inclusivity within their student organization.
  • Raised campus and/or community awareness of diversity issues.
  • Promoted opportunities for open, honest dialogue centered on issues of diversity and inclusion.
  • Held campus programs that provide education and raise awareness on topics related to diversity.

Program of the Year

ABOUT THE AWARD

This award honors a recognized student organization program that has contributed significantly to the quality of campus life at UW-Superior.

CRITERIA

A successful nominee for this award has offered a program that demonstrated some or all of the following:

  • Occurred between March 24, 2017 and April 3, 2018.
  • Student initiated, directed and implemented.
  • Promoted student engagement, built a sense of community, and/or enriched the lives of the campus community.
  • Accomplished its intended goals/learning outcomes.
  • Well-received by participants.
  • Included collaboration within the group, with other students, staff, faculty, or community.
  • The programmers demonstrated some or all of the following skills: organization, budgeting, marketing, creativity, communication, problem solving and time management.
