Scholars in the Program
Students who are selected for the McNair Scholars program will participate in a variety of Fall and Spring semester workshops before entering into the intensive Summer Program. Students learn the process of successful research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students will also receive guidance in the various aspects of graduate school from searching for schools and funding, to learning what to expect as a graduate student.
As a participant you can expect…
- Collaborative research in your field with a faculty mentor
- Presentation of your research at the McNair Scholars Research Symposium
- Publication of your research in the McNair Scholars Journal on Minds
- Workshops and seminars on topics such as:
- Research Basics
- Library and Internet Research Resources
- The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Process
- Finding and Choosing Graduate Schools
- Applying to Graduate Schools (including Personal Statements)
- Funding for Graduate School
- How to Have a Successful Graduate School Interview
- GRE test preparation
- Academic counseling and tutoring as needed

The Benefits
- 2 credits free (2 cr. GRE preparation)
- A stipend of $2800 for completing the research (paid over the summer)
