Scholars in the Program

Students who are selected for the McNair Scholars program will participate in a variety of Fall and Spring semester workshops before entering into the intensive Summer Program. Students learn the process of successful research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Students will also receive guidance in the various aspects of graduate school from searching for schools and funding, to learning what to expect as a graduate student.

As a participant you can expect…

  • Collaborative research in your field with a faculty mentor
  • Presentation of your research at the McNair Scholars Research Symposium
  • Publication of your research in the McNair Scholars Journal on Minds
  • Workshops and seminars on topics such as:
    • Research Basics
    • Library and Internet Research Resources
    • The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Process
    • Finding and Choosing Graduate Schools
    • Applying to Graduate Schools (including Personal Statements)
    • Funding for Graduate School
    • How to Have a Successful Graduate School Interview
  • GRE test preparation
  • Academic counseling and tutoring as needed
