The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), in coordination with the City of Superior, is reconstructing US 2, Belknap Street, from Banks to Hill Avenue, which will impact the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus throughout the upcoming months.

The entrance to UW-Superior from Catlin Avenue to Belknap Street is currently open.

As the second phase of the renovation has begun, detours and reduced traffic lanes along Belknap Street will be changing throughout the summer. This will directly impact one of the main entrances to the UW-Superior campus.

The full project includes new utilities, roadway and sidewalks, lighting, hardscape and landscaping. A new shared entrance with UW-Superior Lot 2, Burger King and Pilgrim Lutheran Church will make this entrance to campus much safer and more efficient.
Extensive upgrades will also be made at the Belknap Street and Catlin Avenue intersection, including two new UW-Superior campus signs, new pavement, sidewalks, lighting and landscaping. This will be an improvement to the main entrance to UW-Superior.

Bus and truck routes will be directed around Belknap Street, but regular service to UW-Superior will continue throughout the project.

This project replaces 1.4 miles of concrete roadway, upgrades the storm sewer system, and improves safety on Belknap Street. The project also includes improvements on most of the connecting side streets north and south of US 2, Belknap Street, back to the respective alleys. Belknap Street is both a principal arterial and an over-size/overweight truck route, and it connects the Wisconsin US 2 corridor with Minnesota.

UW-Superior Facilities Management will continue to provide updates on the progress of the project throughout the summer. Updates are also available through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
