It was a special weekend for Lt. Col Larry Brunello and his family.
He was inducted with four others into the Hurley Distinguished Alumni and Friends Hall of Fame. The award was presented by the Hurley Education Foundation in a ceremony July 28 at Hurley High School.
He earned his B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1964 from Superior State College and graduated from Hurley High School in 1960.
According to the Iron County Miner in Hurley, Brunello served 22 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1986. He logged 800 hours combat time during 200 combat missions. He was the Flight Commander, Chief Instructor Pilot among many other positions he held with the Air Force during his service time.
He went on to be a pilot for 16 years for American Airlines and logged over 15,000 hours of incident and accident free flying time with the airline.
He married a UW-Superior graduate, Sandra Sanders in 1965 and together have four children and seven grandchildren. Sandra graduated from Superior State College with a B.S. degree as well. They live in Fort Worth, Texas but have supported the Hurley Heritage Festival for 15 years.
