KUWS reporters win 12 broadcast news awards

University of Wisconsin-Superior students who report news for KUWS-FM 91.3 recently received 12 awards from Northwest Broadcast News Association.

The Eric Sevareid Awards were presented April 17 at the association's Midwest Journalism Conference in Bloomington, Minn.

  • Awards and students who received theminclude:
  • Audio - Award of Merit to Rich Kremer for "Roller Dames."
  • Audio - First Place Award to Rich Kremer for "Copper Creek Motorway."
  • Broadcast Writing - Award of Merit to Catherine Hannula for "Slazar Visits Apostles." Hannula is a Mount Holyoke student who completed an internship at KUWS.
  • Broadcast Writing - First Place Award to Rich Kremer for "Racial Profiling."
  • Documentary/Special - First Place Award to Laura Podgornik, Chelsea Einerwold, Carl Lindquist, and Joe Cadotte for "Hand in Hands: Volunteering."
  • General Reporting -First Place Award to Rich Kremer for "Congressman v. High School Students."
  • Hard Feature -Award of Merit to Rich Kremer for "Alamo Duluth Lynching."
  • Hard Feature - Award of Merit to Rich Kremer for "Sex Assault Conference."
  • Newscast - First Place Award to Joe Cadotte for "KUWS Morning News."
  • Series - Award of Merit to Rich Kremer for "Hell's Angels."
  • Series - First Place Award to Rich Kremer and Joe Cadotte for "Racial Profiling."
  • Sports Reporting - Award of Merit to Rich Kremer for "Copper Creek Motorway"

KUWS is a Wisconsin Public Radio affiliate located at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Many UW-Superior students work at the station as a co-curricular activity of the university's Communicating Arts Department.
