UW-Superior holds spring commencement

More than 300 students took part in UW-Superior's Spring Commencement

Approximately 326 students received diplomas at the University of Wisconsin-Superior spring commencement on Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at Siinto S. Wessman Arena on the UW-Superior campus.

Chancellor Renée Wachter presided over the ceremony and present diplomas to students who have earned associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Among the total 546 total candidates for graduation this spring, 254 are first-generation students, 47 are graduate and specialist degree candidates, 29 are veteran students and 15 are international students.

Delivering the keynote address to graduates was Carl Crawford. A 2008 graduate of UW-Superior with a major in physical education and a minor in psychology, he currently serves as the Human Rights Officer for the City of Duluth.

The student speaker was Anthony “Scott” McNorton of Waynesboro, Va. A non-traditional student, McNorton has been an active member of campus as a resident assistant and a campus ambassador, as well as the executive director of campus ambassadors.

The Chancellor’s Leadership Award was presented to Nicole Stodola of Superior, Wis. This award is given to a member of the graduating class who is committed to personal growth and has made a positive contribution to their peers, campus and community.
