More than 20,000 students will flow through the Twin Ports community as five higher education institutions welcome new students and begin the semester.
This year, the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, Lake Superior College, The College of St. Scholastica and UMD have joined forces to welcome all students back to town.
“The Twin Ports is a college destination,” said Jordan Milan, UW-Superior’s Director of Strategic Communications and Special Assistant to the Chancellor. “We have the perfect mix of options for students to find their fit – technical, community, small and medium public and private institutions to choose from.”
This partnership has produced a multifaceted campaign that includes billboards, social media coordination, outreach to local businesses, public service announcements and signage. The Superior Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, Greater Downtown Council, Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce, Fox 21 and Spectrum sponsored the effort with in-kind donations and support.
“College students have a big impact on our local region; both culturally and economically,” said Jena Vogtman, WITC’s Director of Marketing. “We all wanted to work together with our community to show students and their families that they are welcome in the Twin Ports.”
The group is encouraging local businesses to display welcome back posters, post welcome messages on social media and help promote local offerings to students and their families.
First Days:
- Aug. 21 Lake Superior College
