Amber Heidenreich named Student Speaker for commencement

Heidenreich is a Bachelor of Science degree candidate with summa cum laude honors

Amber Heidenreich will serve as Student Speaker for the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s commencement. The event will take place virtually at noon Saturday, May 15, with viewing available online.

Heidenreich is a Bachelor of Science degree candidate with summa cum laude honors. She is a double major in political science and legal studies. Heidenreich will also be receiving a paralegal certificate and a certificate in ethical leadership upon graduation.  

A dedicated student leader, athlete and civic change-maker with a demonstrated commitment to public service, Heidenreich has held several internships, fellowships and student leader positions.

She was named the 2020-21 Newman Civic Fellow, a national fellowship designed for students dedicated to change-making.

Heidenreich was also a Democracy Fellow with Campus Vote Project. In addition to these fellowships, she was also a Community and Voter Engagement Intern with UW-Superior’s Link Center, where her voter engagement work helped UW-Superior achieve a Voter Friendly Campus designation.

Heidenreich is also a recipient of the 2021 Chancellor’s Leadership Award.

The Phillips, Wisconsin, native also interned with the Duluth DWI Court as a screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment (SBIRT) intervenor for two years, which helped to create a partnership between the SBIRT process and UW-Superior students.

Heidenreich, a 2017 graduate of Hayward High School, was also a student ambassador for WiSys, a non-profit supporting organization of the UW System. She is also a member of the Pre-Law Society and the president of the Criminal Justice Honor Society.

Active on campus as a member of both the Criminal Justice Honor Society and Pre-Law Society, Heidenreich was also a member of the Yellowjacket track and field team and the hockey team. She has been named the Yellowjacket Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year and the WIAC Judy Kruckman Women’s Ice Hockey Scholar-Athlete.
