Economic students participate in Wisconsin Economic Association conference
UW-Superior students and faculty participated in the 2018 Wisconsin Economic Association conference Oct. 26-27, in Stevens Point.
Undergraduate student researchers can cite the 2018 WEA Conference Abstract Proceedings as future reference
UW-Superior economic students and faculty participated at the 2018 Wisconsin Economic Association conference held at Stevens Point, October 26-27, 2018.
- Senior economics majors of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) students, Viktor Sallhag and Olle Sedelius, presented their Senior Economic Capstone project. Sallhag’s topic is on, “Female Empowerment and Economic Growth,”; whereas, Sedelius’s presentation is about, “Trade Openness and Its Impact on Economic Growth in China.”
- Obiageli Ekwunwa, and Opeyemi Omiwale, presented their Summer Undergraduate Research Project on, “Retail Industry Outlook of the City of Superior.”
- Economics faculty members Rubana Mahjabeen and Praopan Pratoomchat, presented their work on, “The Number of Public High School Graduates of the Midwest USA: Why it is Projected to Decline?”
- Economics faculty Sakib Mahmud presented his research on, “Influence of Public Programs and a Natural Barrier in Mitigating Health Risks from Major Storms: Evidence from Coastal Households in Bangladesh.”
- Additional attendees include: freshmen students, Matias E. Lopez, and Sajid Chowdhury, and junior, Sequoia Borner. These students were exposed to other outlets of economic theory other than our courses at UW-Superior.
On other developments associated with the Wisconsin Economic Association:
- Undergraduate student researchers can cite the 2018 WEA Conference Abstract Proceedings as future reference on their CVs/ Resumes.
- Mahmud has been nominated for the Vice-President position at the Wisconsin Economic Association Board.
- Some future collaborative projects were discussed at the conference with University of Wisconsin partners and other universities.
This WEA annual conference trip of UW-Superior students and faculty was made possible by Stimulus Club and Shippar-Beam Economics Program Enhancement Fund. Econ students and faculty are looking forward to continually participate in this annual event to showcase UW-Superior students and faculty members’ work.
