Faculty and staff recognition program and award nominations now open

Do you have a colleague who has gone above and beyond? Nominations are currently being accepted for Performance Awards to be recognized at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Program on Thursday, May 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Great Room.

Do you know a faculty or staff member who deserves extra recognition for their hard work?

Do you have a colleague who has gone above and beyond? Do you know someone who completed a successful project this past year? Do you want to recognize someone who is passionate about their work and motivates others?

Nominations are now being accepted for Performance Awards to be recognized at the Faculty and Staff Recognition Program to be held on Thursday, May 11, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union Great Room. This program is designed to celebrate the dedicated work of the UW-Superior faculty and staff as they serve our students and community.

Please also take a moment, reflect on who is deserving of special recognition, and complete the simple nomination form attached to this email.  All nominations are due to Amy Missinne in the Provost Office on Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m.

Below is a list of the awards and a brief description of each:

Teaching/Online Teaching Excellence Award – This award is open to any faculty or academic staff whose appointment is half time or more. The recipient(s) of this award will be an individual(s) who has demonstrated teaching excellence through evidence of exceptional learning outcomes and quality student advising. Awardee will be invited to do a presentation about his or her activities.

Outstanding Team/Unit/Office Award – This award is open to any team/unit/office on campus. The recipients of the award will be a team/unit/office that makes a significant contribution to the university.

Excellence in Scholarship Award – This award is open to any faculty or academic staff whose appointment is half-time or more and whose scholarly efforts have made a significant contribution to their field of study. Awardee will be invited to do a presentation about his or her activities.

Distinguished Service Award – This award is open to any faculty, academic staff or University Staff whose appointment is half time or more and whose work has made a substantial contribution to the university or the community.

University Staff Excellence Award – This award is open to any University Staff who has displayed ongoing exemplary service to the university.

Academic Staff Excellence Award – This award is for a non-instructional academic staff member who has displayed exemplary service to the university.

Distinguished Creativity Award – This award is open to full-time faculty and teaching academic staff with a minimum of three years of service.  Please submit a current vita and a list of nominee’s activities for consideration (limited to the past five years) with examples of creative activities. Creativity will not be defined; doing so may restrict and/or inhibit participation. Awardee will be invited to do a creative presentation about his or her activities.

Making Excellence Inclusive Award – This award honors individuals or groups on campus whose actions consistently and visibly personify the spirit of diversity and inclusivity. Awards are open to all staff and faculty. Submit a brief and specific description of the contributions made by the given individual or group.

Academic Service-Learning Excellence Award – This award is open to any faculty or academic teaching staff whose appointment is half-time or more. The recipient of this award will be an individual who has demonstrated teaching excellence by integrating Academic Service-Learning pedagogy into their course(s) that align with the Service Standards for Quality Practice.  Nominees/applicants that have not worked with the Center for Academic Service-Learning are still invited to apply.

Spirit of Superior Awards – The award is open to all faculty, academic staff, university staff and departments and is given to individuals/departments who actively demonstrate and model, on a daily and consistent basis, the values of UW-Superior and as a result are making a difference in the campus climate and the lives of those who work and study on campus. Nominations should include a brief explanation of how that person or department demonstrates and models the values of UW-Superior and how the person or department has positively affected our campus community. At UW-Superior, we are committed to academic excellence, with an emphasis on student-focused learning, intellectual and personal development, continuous improvement, inclusivity, community partnerships and global awareness.    

  • Learning (or Teaching) Focus - We emphasize personal attention to the student.
  • Intellectual Development - In the liberal arts tradition, we seek to cultivate life-long learners who can think critically, communicate in a variety of mediums, and apply knowledge in order to solve problems.  
  • Integrity - We earn trust through honest, sincere, and humble leadership.  
  • Continual Improvement - We seek to enhance the quality of all programs and services.   
  • Collegiality - We stress mutual respect, appreciation for diversity, and respect for diverse perspectives.

Max H. Lavine Award – This award was established to recognize scholarly work of faculty and staff that address problems of contemporary society. This award has a separate call to campus, nomination and selection process; the award recipient will be announced at this event.

A selection committee reviews the nominations and recommends recipients to the Chancellor. Recipients will be announced and recognized on May 11.
