Kristiina Thums (’20 Music Ed) wins Concerto Competition
Kristiina Thums, a senior music education major at UW-Superior, recently won the Red Cedar Symphony 2020 Concerto Competition and was selected to perform as a soloist with the Red Cedar Symphony at its Spring Concert on March 7-8.
Thums performed Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto in B flat major and was accompanied by music instructor Alex Sandor. Thums performed her winning concerto for the UWS Symphonic Band Concert on March 5.
“I am very humbled and thankful for this experience,” said Thums. “The music faculty at UWS have been very supportive of me in my time here, and it is with their guidance that I have been able to pursue these musical opportunities.”
The Red Cedar Symphony was founded in 1983 to present symphonic music experiences to the Rice Lake community. Its Concerto Competition is for musicians residing in northwest Wisconsin and includes high school, college, and adult categories.
