Music student and alumni place in top five at Old-Time Fiddle Contest

Congratulations to the current and former UW-Superior music majors who received top honors in the Championship Division at the Minnesota State Old-Time Fiddle Contest on August 14 in Mountain Iron.

Eliza Wilson, current UW-Superior student studying with Dr. Erin Aldridge, professor of violin, finished in fourth place. Alumna Kailyn Spencer who also studied under Aldridge finished in third place, and alumna Sheila Wilcox is the co-organizer of the contest and finished in fifth place.

Fiddlers young and old competed for cash and prizes and performed for a live audience. The contest is certified by the National Old Time Fiddlers Association, so the Minnesota State Champion fiddler qualifies to participate in the National Old Time Fiddle Championships in Weiser, Idaho next June. This year’s winner was Sheila Wilcox’s son, Aaron Wilcox, who grew up in Mountain Iron and graduated from Virginia High School.
