The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being will begin its virtual fall speaker series on Tuesday, September 21, at 4:30 p.m. with Tal Ben-Shahar presenting “Happier, No Matter What: Cultivating Hope, Resilience, and Purpose in Hard Times.”

Free and open to the community, Ben-Shahar will discuss common ideas that success brings happiness and that individuals can seek happiness itself. When hard times thwart success and joy, these ideas invite despair.

Ben-Shahar is an author and lecturer who taught courses at Harvard University on positive psychology and the psychology of leadership.

Consulting and lecturing around the world to executives in multi-national corporations, the general public and at-risk populations, Ben-Shahar has addressed topics of leadership, ethics, happiness, self-esteem, resilience, goal-setting and mindfulness. Ben-Shahar is the author of the books “Short Cuts to Happiness: Life-Changing Lessons from My Barber,” “The Joy of Leadership: How Positive Psychology Can Maximize Your Impact (and Make You Happier) in a Challenging World,” The New York Times bestseller “Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment” and others.

Registration is available online.

The virtual speaker series will also include George Mumford, “Mindfulness to Enhance Performance,” on October 19 and Kelly McGonigal, “The Joy of Movement: How Exercise Helps Us Find Happiness, Hope, Connection, and Courage” on November 16. All virtual presentations begin at 4:30 p.m.

The speaker series is a partnership between UW-Superior’s Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being and the Center for Continuing Education. Funding provided by the Miller-Dwan Foundation.
