Ragtime Recital Series presents Ethan Uslan
SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will host ragtime and jazz pianist Ethan Uslan for its Ragtime Recital Series on Saturday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Webb Recital Hall.
“I'll be playing American popular piano styles from later 1800s through the swing era,” said Uslan. “There will be humor and songs ranging from ‘Oh Susanna,” to ‘Beer Barrel Polka,’ to ‘Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,’ and of course, jazzy versions of classical things like ‘Für Elise.’”
Based in Charlotte, N.C., Uslan is a three-time winner of the World Championship Old-Time Playing Contest and has performed throughout the United States and Europe. His vast repertoire includes original arrangements of Civil War-era songs, New Orleans Jazz, 1920s Charlestons, blues, stomps, Harlem stride piano, swing, Cuban rumbas, and jazz versions of classical masterpieces.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students. The Webb Recital Hall is located in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center, 1805 Catlin Ave.
