Shevaun Stocker named next associate dean of Academic Affairs
The University of Wisconsin-Superior has named Dr. Shevaun Stocker, currently a professor of psychology and chairperson of the Human Behavior, Justice and Diversity Department, as the next associate dean of Academic Affairs.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve the campus and community in this role,” said Stocker. “I look forward to working with colleagues in new ways and being able to put my expertise and skills to use for our students, faculty, staff and community as associate dean.”
Stocker earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in social psychology at the University of North Carolina, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. Now in her 14th year at UW-Superior, Stocker has taught a wide range of psychology courses in online and face-to-face formats, along with placing a strong scholarly emphasis on developing teaching methods.
“Throughout her time at UW-Superior, Shevaun has been an active leader in shared governance and university service,” said Dr. Nicholas Danz, UW-Superior dean of Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies. “She has served as chairperson of the Human Behavior, Justice and Diversity Department during the past five years and various terms as faculty senator, academic program review council member and as a member of the assessment academy team for the Higher Learning Commission. Her commitment to our campus, paired with her demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to facilitate progress, make her an excellent choice for our next associate dean of Academic Affairs.”
In a recent sabbatical, Stocker has carried out research and development of open educational resources in her psychology courses to the direct benefit of students. In 2011-2012, she served as a Wisconsin Teaching Fellow and has also researched and presented at national conferences on utilizing social-emotional learning in the college classroom.
“We are truly fortunate to have someone with Shevaun’s excellent background and leadership in this position,” said Danz.
Stocker’s new role will begin January 2020.
