The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will hold its Global Percussion Concert on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
The concert will feature the tropical sounds of COLD Steel, the UW-Superior Steel Drum Ensemble. The performance will include music from Korea and Africa with the metallic sounds of steel drums supplemented by various global drumming traditions.
“African drumming will be performed in a dance style called ‘Gahu’ from Ghana and played on traditional Ghanaian drums,” said Brett Jones, Professor of Percussion at UW-Superior. “The Korean drumming is samul nori drumming that features drums and gongs.”
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for students. The Thorpe Langley Auditorium is located in Old Main at 1710 Weeks Ave. in Superior. For questions or additional information, call (715) 394-8115 or email music@uwsuper.edu.
