Students preparing for Wednesday's Job Fair

More than 70 employers are ready to meet future interns and employees at the Head of the Lakes Job Fair.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the YU Great Room.

From Amsoil to Woodland Hills, there's an employer in nearly every industry, from manufacturing and human services to aerospace, financial services and more.

You don't have to be looking for an internship or after-college job to take part. Some employers are hiring for temporary, part-time positions and most are open to networking with students who may be entering the work force in a few years.
Tom Barbano of Career Services said the office tried to expand the mix of employers this year by reaching out to campus departments to get more ideas on whom to invite.

"The UW-Superior family really comes together here for them to make it a great event," Barbano said, adding that he hopes UW-Superior can build on the success of last year's fair, when employers said they were impressed with their visit.

Zach Otto-Fisher, a Career Services coordinator, says there's also been a push this year to get students more prepared for the fair. "The more prepared you are, the better impression, you, and UWS, will make on employers," he said.

So how should students make the most of the job fair opportunity?

Dress sharp, have resumes in hand, and if possible, do a little research on the employer ahead of time. If you need help with clothes (forgot your suit and tie back home), check out the free Career Closet at Career Services (1061 Swenson) to see if there's something you can wear.

Check out the Career Services calendar for any Prepare for the Fair events, or schedule a one-on-one meeting with a career services staffer to go over your resume, practice interview questions and learn other tips and tricks.

Otto-Fisher says students should look at the list of employers ahead of time and prioritize who they want to see. Otherwise, "You might see that there's a big line of people where you want to go and you run out of time," he said.If you live off campus, free parking is offered in regular spots in lots 2 and 11 (between Belknap Street and the YU) during the fair.
