UW-Superior mourns passing of former faculty member Ron Roubal

The University of Wisconsin-Superior mourns the passing of former faculty member Ron Roubal, who died October 5.

Roubal was a long-standing instructor in the natural sciences, teaching chemistry to many generations of students, and making a lasting mark on them and the university.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues,” said UW-Superior Chancellor Renée Wachter.

In 1964 Roubal accepted a faculty position at UW-Superior, which was then called Wisconsin State Teachers College. He spent the next 32 distinguished years teaching inorganic chemistry and eventually became the chair of the then division of math and sciences. Roubal was inducted into the UW-Superior Chemistry and Physics Hall of Fame in 2014.

He spent many summers teaching National Science Foundation students from throughout the United States. Roubal was also one of the founders of the Center for Lake Superior Environmental Studies, now known as the Lake Superior Research Institute.

The obituary for Ron Roubal is available online. Services are scheduled for Saturday, October 9, in Superior.
