UW-Superior Theatre to present Tony Award-winning comedy
“Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” follows aging siblings who share a home where they bicker and complain
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Theatre will present the comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” in the Manion Theatre. Performances, directed by UW-Superior theatre professor Cathy Fank, will take place Nov. 9, 10, 16, and 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.
“I read the first 20 pages of the script and decided this was it,” said Fank. “The characters are very realistic, but slightly skewed.”
Written by Christopher Durang, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” which won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, follows aging siblings who share a home where they bicker and complain. When their movie-star sister comes to town with her boy-toy, old resentments flare and so does the comedy.
“I hope the audience will find moments of reflection of their own lives and their own past,” said Fank. “I hope there are some sentimental moments, but more than anything, I hope there are funny moments.”
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and non-UW-Superior students, $5 for students with a valid UW-Superior ID and $5 for groups of 10 or more. Tickets may be purchased at the box office in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at UW-Superior.
Reservations can be made at (715) 394-8380 . If you need immediate assistance, please call the Department of Communicating Arts at (715) 394-8369 . The Manion Theatre is located in the Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center at 1805 Catlin Ave. in Superior.
