UW-Superior to host best high school musicians for the Tri-State Band Festival

The day will conclude with a public concert at 7 p.m.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior will host more than 100 of the best high school musicians from throughout the Northland for the Tri-State Band Festival on Thursday, October 21.

Students will rehearse with UW-Superior Music Department faculty and guest clinician Jonathan Sweet.

Sweet joined the Purdue Bands & Orchestras faculty as assistant professor of bands in the fall of 2017, after finishing coursework toward a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Kentucky. Sweet received his Bachelor of Music Education from Abilene Christian University in 2004 and earned a Master of Music degree in Wind Band Conducting from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2013. Prior to his appointment to Purdue’s faculty, Sweet served as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Kentucky. He taught undergraduate conducting students, marching band techniques, and private lessons in the Euphonium studio. Sweet also conducted the Concert Band, guest conducted the Wind Symphony and Symphony Bands, assisted with the Wildcat Marching Band, and directed the Wildcat Pep Band for women’s volleyball, women’s gymnastics, and women’s and men’s basketball.

The day will conclude with a public concert at 7 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium featuring both high school and UW-Superior musicians. Tickets are $5 adults, $3 seniors and free for students.
