With many individuals vacating their offices to work from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an unfortunate side effect is the increased number of cyber-attacks. With sensitive data being sent over unprotected networks, many businesses are finding themselves vulnerable, yet there is a significant shortage of qualified professionals who have the skills to protect against these cyber threats.

To address this immediate demand, the University of Wisconsin-Superior is introducing a completely online Master of Science in Cybersecurity this fall.

“UW-Superior is excited to be a partner with UW Extended Campus to offer the Master of Science in Cybersecurity collaborative degree,” said Dr. Maria Cuzzo, interim provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs. “Our high-quality academic experts have been leaders in developing this graduate program that will support students in high demand jobs. The field of cybersecurity is expanding rapidly, and it is a great opportunity for UW-Superior to contribute to this growth.”

This program will provide students with skills that meet current market demands through core curriculum that addresses the fundamentals of cybersecurity, featuring courses in security planning, risk assessment, and communication. After completing core courses, students choose a unique track of study to tailor their degree to match their interests and career ambitions. Tracks include digital forensics, cyber response, governance and leadership, and security architecture.

The online cybersecurity degree is a collaboration among eight UW campuses, giving students access to top instructors and resources. Students take courses taught by esteemed faculty from the eight campuses, each of whom contributed their unique expertise from fields including computer science, engineering, political science, communications, economics, and mathematics.

Online students in this program will earn the same recognized and respected UW-Superior degree as on-campus students. The UW Master of Science in Cybersecurity is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, a regional accrediting body.
