The University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Bachelor of Arts degree in writing will now be offered both online and on campus.

“Writing Program faculty and staff have had the privilege of working with many capable and eager writers through the online program at UW-Superior,” said Julie Gard, Associate Professor of Writing at UW-Superior. “We're thrilled that these students will now have access to a wider array of courses in creative, academic, and professional writing.”

UW-Superior’s writing degree pairs in-depth courses in creative writing with professional and applied writing courses, enabling students to further develop their love for writing and hone their craft, while also building the foundation for a successful writing career. Online students can also choose to take some on-campus courses to better accommodate their schedule.

“Online students bring a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to their coursework, and those with a passion for writing can now channel that into a writing major that allows them to develop their writing skills in both imaginative and practical directions,” said Gard. “Upper-level courses in creative writing, rhetoric, and professional writing are taught by the same professors who teach these courses on campus. Online writing majors will have access to the same level of mentorship and customized experience as they work on their essays, stories, poems, proposals, and cross-genre projects.”

Online writing majors will also be able to gain real-world experience for credit by completing internships at a location of their convenience.

“This course also includes the opportunity to research and gain knowledge about a career or graduate school path of the student’s choice,” said Gard. “In addition, the capstone course involves creating a professional-quality, online portfolio of original written work.”
