Waivers for Health Insurance

Per University of Wisconsin System policy, all UW-Superior international students (in F-1 or J-1 status) are required to participate in the insurance policy arranged by the University of Wisconsin System and administered by Consolidated Health Plans unless they are registered in one of the pre-approved plans listed below.

  1. Insurance coverage by a US-based group health plan as an employee or dependent of an employee
  2. Norwegian National Insurance Scheme (HELFO)
  3. Royal Thai Embassy (OEA)
  4. Student Scholarship Program (SSP) of SABIC
  5. Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission (SACM)
  6. University of Southampton
  7. KAUST Gifted Student Program

Students may apply for a waiver to the insurance requirement by submitting a completed waiver application on an annual basis, along with a copy of the front and back of the health insurance ID card and/or written verification of coverage.

Students who do not have an approved waiver application on file will be automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
