Options for Studying with ESLi

ESLi pre-university studies

  • Students apply to the university for a degree program but study at the ESLi center for English language study before beginning their degree program. Conditional admission students receive a Form I-20 (document needed to apply for an F-1 visa) from ESLi and a letter of conditional admission (pre-admission approval) to UW-Superior from the university.
  • After successfully completing the ESLi program, academically qualified students are guaranteed admission to UW-Superior if they complete the application process. ESLi students do not need to take TOEFL or IELTS. Students begin their university degree studies after they have completed ESLi.

ESLi only

Students study intensive English for 1 or 2 semesters in the ESLi center but do not intend to enter the university for academic studies.

The ESLi program at UW-Superior

ESLi offers an intensive English program of 20 hours of instruction per week in reading, writing, listening and speaking, and grammar. The programs offers five levels, each one semester long, ranging from basic up to the pre-university level. When students enroll at ESLi, they take a placement exam to determine which level of instruction is appropriate.

ESLi students have many opportunities to interact with American students because they live in the UW-Superior residence halls, eat in the campus dining hall, use the recreational facilities, and participate in university student activities such as the UW-Superior World Student Association.
