Behavioral Neuroscience

Overview

Behavioral neuroscience is the study of the biological basis of behavior in humans and animals. Behavioral neuroscientists seek to answer questions like: How has the human brain evolved? What is the nature of consciousness? What is the biological basis of normal or atypical brain function?

In this program, you will study the mind and human behavior to better understand individuals, groups, societal issues and yourselves. You will learn to think critically to understand global issues and analyze various theories related to modern behavioral challenges. Studying behavioral neuroscience is a great first step toward careers and graduate programs that require an informed understanding of human behavior and mental processes.

What You’ll Learn

The behavioral neuroscience minor at UW-Superior combines courses in biology, psychology, chemistry and health. The minor can be completed on-campus or online. Through the core requirements and elective courses, students will explore the biological basis of topics such as mental illness, the sleep-walking cycle, sensation, language, memory, stress and sexuality.

Unique Opportunities

• Gain pre-professional experience as an intern or research assistant, or by conducting and presenting your own original research. 
• Explore biological basis of topics such as mental illness, the sleep-waking cycle, sensation, language, memory, stress and sexuality.
• Join one of two psychology-related student clubs: Psi Chi Honor Society and Inkblots.
