
Overview
No matter where your life takes you, communication is an essential skill in every industry and position and it cuts across all socio-economic, political and cultural contexts. UW-Superior is a leader in the art and practice of communication, where students study communication in multiple forms and apply it through various hands-on experience. You will learn to apply communication skills and theories in personal, professional and social contexts. Your exploration of communication will be rooted in understanding interpersonal and relational communication; persuasion and rhetoric; media, technology and society; organizational and professional communication; and public speaking and presentation skills.
This program is available on-campus or online.
What You’ll Learn
Communication students develop a powerful toolkit of skills that are valued by employers, organizations and communities. As a student, you will study communication skills and theories in a range of contexts to become an effective communicator in preparation for a successful career in an ever-changing world.
In this program you will learn and practice:
- Effective Communication: Craft compelling messages for any audience—whether speaking, writing or presenting
- Collaboration: Work in teams to brainstorm, pitch ideas and execute projects like a pro
- Critical Thinking: Analyze media, culture and communication trends to solve real-world problems
- Cultural Awareness: Understand diverse perspectives to communicate ethically and inclusively
- Research Skills: Essential for understanding audiences, user experiences, media trends and communication dynamics—including basic qualitative and quantitive methods for understanding the effect of messages on human behavior and thought
- Storytelling: Build narratives that inspire, inform and persuade across multiple channels
- Digital and Media Literacy: Navigate and leverage social media, websites and emerging technologies with confidence
