Recap: SOAP's Firestarter Clinic

Posted on Nov 2, 2011

In the first of a series of outdoor adventure clinics, Campus Recreation's Superior Outdoor Adventure Program (SOAP) aimed to teach participants how to create a firestarter.

Whether you want to start a fire for cooking or for survival, a fire starter should light easily and burn well. SOAP first had participants melt crayons while filling egg cartons with lint. Next each person got to choose a fun color or invent their own (purple glitter or green-bronze) to pour over the carton. After a few minutes of cooling, WALA! Firestarters!

After enjoying the experience of the clinic, participants got to keep their homemade firestarters

Keep an eye out for future clinics presented by SOAP.

Through our programs and facilities, we provide an array of recreation and wellness opportunities that foster active and healthy lifestyles.
