Tutoring Services


If you need assistance with a course, UW-Superior offers FREE tutoring services for all currently enrolled UW-Superior students. Students can access tutoring by seeking support with our UWS Peer Tutors for drop-ins or appointments. In addition to peer tutoring, UW-Superior contracts with NetTutor to provide professional tutoring via virtual drop-ins.
The Educational Success Center will be open during the following times during the Fall 2021 semester:
Monday: 8 am – 4:30 pm
Tuesday: 8 am – 4:30 pm
Wednesday: 8 am – 8 pm
Thursday: 8 am – 8 pm
Friday: 8 am – 4:30 pm
Sunday: 5 pm – 8 pm, in the Library, study room 117

Peer Tutoring

Students can meet with UW-Superior Peer Tutors in-person or virtually, and can drop-in to the ESC during open hours, or schedule an appointment. Links to schedule appointments are done through Navigate, and can be found by selecting “Fall 2021 Tutor Schedule.

Peer Tutors are currently enrolled UW-Superior students who have taken courses at UW-Superior and done well. Peer Tutors offer assistance in a host of services including: 

  • One-on-one tutoring in course content
  • Small group tutoring in course content 
  • Navigating campus computer software 
  • Teaching study skills 
  • Help with time management skills 

If you would like peer tutoring help, but the course you need is not currently supported, please contact the ESC to request a tutor.

If you would like a tutor, but do not know where to begin or how to get started, please feel free to contact Trish Oyaas, the tutoring & testing coordinator, at poyaas@uwsuper.edu.

When coming for a tutoring drop-ins or appointments, please be sure to bring your completed homework, textbooks, and notes from class, so that our peer tutors can best support you.

Net Tutor

UW-Superior contracts with NetTutor to provide live drop-in support and is free for all enrolled students.

Students can access tutoring support directly through their courses on Canvas. On NetTutor, you will be able to meet with a professional tutor online with the option to connect via chat.  To access Net Tutor, please follow the below steps:

  1. Log onto Canvas and go into your course
  2. On the Navigation Bar for your course, you should see a link to “NetTutor.”
  3. Click on the course in which you need a tutor 
  4. From here, you will have the following options:
    1. Drop in and meet with a Live Tutor
      1. This will connect you with a professional tutor. After selecting this option, you will be given an anticipated wait time. 
      2. Not every subject will be available 24/7. Once you’ve selected your subject, you can choose “Drop-In Tutoring Hours” in the upper right corner to discover when tutors are available.
    2. Drop off a Question
      1. If you’d like to submit a question but not meet with a tutor, you can select this option to receive feedback on your question.
    3. Your *subject* Locker
      1. All sessions hosted on NetTutor are recorded for your convenience. You will be able to access those through the locker. 
      2. All responses and feedback to your dropped-off questions will be found in the locker

Writing Lab

UW-Superior offers writing support across subjects through the Writing Lab. Click here to get writing assistance.

How to become a Peer Tutor

The Educational Success Center generally hires students who:

  • Have a strong background in the area they will be tutoring.
  • Have a B or higher in the courses they tutor.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (If this requirement is not met, a tutor may be placed on probation for one semester.)
