Tutoring Services

Overview

The Academic Support Center and Math Lab are located in Educational Success Center in Swenson Hall 1024/1025. All tutoring services are FREE to currently enrolled UW-Superior students.

Our Tutors

The Educational Success Center employs nearly 40 students per semester as tutors in our labs. Tutors provide one-one-one and group tutoring in math, study skill strategies, and other content areas.

The Educational Success Center generally hires students who:

  • Have a strong background in the area they will be tutoring.
  • Have a B or higher in the courses they tutor.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. (If this requirement is not met, a tutor may be placed on probation for one semester.)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Interest in working with students.
  • Patience, sensitivity, and interpersonal skills to work with all students.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative manner with all students, co-workers, and supervisors.

Tutor training is provided to all tutors who work for Educational Success Center. The Educational Success Center staff offers tutor training which focuses on educational roadblocks experienced by students with disabilities. To find out more about becoming a tutor, please come to the Math Lab in Swenson Hall 1024 or the Academic Support Center in Swenson Hall 1025.

Application Instructions

Please print the Tutor Application, complete, and return all application materials (completed application, unofficial transcripts, and cover letter) to Educational Success Center, Swenson Hall 1024.

Academic Support Center: Swenson Hall 1025

The Academic Support Center (ASC) is a content area tutoring lab that offers students the opportunity to work with talented traditional and non-traditional aged students who know what it takes to succeed in the classroom. Trained peer mentors offer day and evening assistance in a host of student-to-student services including:

  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Small group tutoring
  • Navigating campus computer software
  • Teaching study skills
  • Help with time management skills

The ASC offers a quiet study area and 14 computers for student use. All ASC services are FREE to current UW-Superior students. If we don't have a content area tutor you are looking for, just ask us!  We can find a tutor for almost every subject.

Math Lab: Swenson Hall 1024

The Math Lab provides students with free math tutoring in subjects ranging from MATH 090 (Fundamentals of Mathematics) to Math 240 (Calculus I). Assistance for other higher-level math courses may also as well as computer science courses may also be available.

Students are welcome during open hours to stop by and work with peer tutors individually or as a group to obtain clarification on important math concepts.

The Math Lab offers day and evening assistance through:

  • Textbooks from every math course through Calculus I available for student use in the lab
  • Daily calculator rentals
