UW-Superior URSCA Achievements 2012 -13

  1. URSCA Advisory Committee promoted 1st Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, in summer 2012, for 8 undergraduates and this grew to 10 SURF projects (12 students) in summer 2013; Each project was awarded a $4000 stipend and each mentor received $1000 stipend.
  2. URSCA Advisory Committee conducted 2nd campus survey to examine how departments and research institutes utilize students in URSCA activities; the 2 campus surveys indicated a high level of instructor interest in doing more of this and that a broad array of activities occurs on campus
  3. URSCA Advisory Committee sent 6 Posters (11 students) for Posters in the Rotunda,Madison;
  4. URSCA Advisory Committee hosted 2nd Day of Celebration to highlight URSCA activities - 34 posters (8 departments) - with Chancellor and Provost presenting URSCA certificates;
  5. Assisted with URSCA Growth Agenda Grant application in winter 2013 and received a 3 year $290,000 grant which will provide a Center, a Director, and a program assistant;
  6. URSCA Advisory Committee sent a campus team to UW Oshkosh meeting of WI-CUR Grant campuses in February and to UW-Stevens Point for May WI-CUR organizational meeting.
  7. URSCA Advisory Committee was invited to send a member to attend the AAC&U Leap Conference as a COPLAC member in Denver Co. in June;
  8. URSCA Co-Chair is involved in the Advancing Minorities in Science (AMIS)project which serves students under represented in STEM fields, with a summer stipend to undertake research projects in a mentored setting with a faculty advisor
  9. URSCA Advisory Committee provided 50 easels and poster boards for campus research events
  10. URSCA Advisory Committee supported two students and their mentors to attend N-CUR in La Crosse, WI
  11. URSCA Advisory Committee partners with McNair Scholars to encourage students in STEM initiatives.
