Student Opportunities

Throughout the year, UW-Superior students have opportunities to present their research or creative work to the campus community, within their discipline, and at statewide events. Additionally, several opportunities are available for students to have their research published to various audiences.

Opportunities to Present Research

Day of Celebration

UW-Superior Day of Celebration of URSCA – The campus URSCA showcase is open to all students. First and second year students are encouraged to take part and share their research, scholarly, or creative work. Students interested in the Day of Celebration may contact the URSCA office for more information.

Research in the Rotunda

Selected students will present their research in Madison at the Capitol Rotunda to legislators and state leaders for Research in the Rotunda. Six projects will be chosen to represent UW-Superior at this event on March 11, 2020. Travel is coordinated and paid for by URSCA for students attending this event.

UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

The University of Wisconsin System’s annual showcase of undergraduate work is hosted by a different UW campus each year. The Symposium is an opportunity for students in all disciplines to showcase their work. This year the event will be held April 2021 at UW-Whitewater in Whitewater, WI.

Travel for students attending this event is coordinated and paid for by URSCA.  For more information about the event, click here. Applications for the UW-System Symposium are due Friday, February 28th.  To apply, please complete the form below.

National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

This year’s National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) will be held at California State University (Long Beach, CA) in April 2021. Students who are accepted to present at NCUR may apply for travel assistance through the URSCA office. Apply online.

Opportunities to Publish Research

Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis - Council of Public Liberal Arts College's inter-disciplinary journal of undergraduate work. Published twice a year - spring and fall. Submissions accepted each semester, due by the end of the semester; faculty mentors should submit on behalf of students directly to Metamorphosis.

Submissions to Metamorphosis should come directly from faculty mentors on behalf of students.

Nemadji Review

The Nemadji Review is the University of Wisconsin-Superior's annual journal of student scholarly and creative work that is published during spring semester. Submissions are typically accepted at the end of fall semester. Work can be submitted to thenemadjireview@gmail.com.

WiSys

WiSys is a non-profit supporting organization of the UW System, serving as the dedicated technology transfer office for 11 universities.

Quick Pitch

Quick Pitch is an annual event held at UW-Superior that provides students an opportunity to present their research in a quick, easy to understand way while competing for cash prizes. Learn more about participating in the event.

SPARK Symposium

WiSys’ SPARK Symposium is held annually in July and honors research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the UW System by both students and faculty. Learn More

Are you interested in an undergraduate research experience at another university?

The Center for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity receives information about numerous student research internships, paid and unpaid, from institutions throughout the United States.

The National Science Foundation funds a large number of research opportunities for students through its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. Learn more about the program and current opportunities.
