Student Opportunities

Throughout the year, UW-Superior students have opportunities to present their research or creative work to the campus community, within their discipline, and at statewide events. Additionally, several opportunities are available for students to have their research published to various audiences.

Research in the Rotunda

2021 Research in the Rotunda has been cancelled because it cannot be held safely during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We look forward to returning to the capitol rotunda for this event in April 2022.

UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

The University of Wisconsin System’s annual showcase of undergraduate work is hosted by a different UW campus each year. The UW-System Symposium is an opportunity for undergraduate students in all disciplines, from all UW campuses, to showcase their work through oral presentations, posters, exhibits, and artistic performances. The Office of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity coordinates and funds student participation in the UW-System Symposium.
The 2021 Symposium will be sponsored by UW-Whitewater on April 28th, 2021 and will be virtual and students will submit a video presentation.

If you are interested in presenting your work at this conference, email with the following information by March 15th:

  • Your name
  • The names of any other students that worked on the project with and also plan to participate
  • Your mentor's name (copy your mentor on this email)
  • Presentation title
  • An abstract (200 – 300 words)

National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research will be held virtually April 12 – 14, 2021. Students who are interested in presenting at NCUR should apply on-line. Applications are being accepted now through December 1, and students who are accepted will be notified by January 2021. The Center for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity will coordinate registration for students accepted to present.

Opportunities to Publish Research


Metamorphosis - Council of Public Liberal Arts College's inter-disciplinary journal of undergraduate work. Published twice a year - spring and fall. Submissions accepted each semester, due by the end of the semester; faculty mentors should submit on behalf of students directly to Metamorphosis.

Submissions to Metamorphosis should come directly from faculty mentors on behalf of students.

Nemadji Review

The Nemadji Review is the University of Wisconsin-Superior's annual journal of student scholarly and creative work that is published during spring semester. Submissions are typically accepted at the end of fall semester. Work can be submitted to


WiSys is a non-profit supporting organization of the UW System, serving as the dedicated technology transfer office for 11 universities.

Quick Pitch

Quick Pitch is an annual event held at UW-Superior that provides students an opportunity to present their research in a quick, easy to understand way while competing for cash prizes. Learn more about participating in the event.

The Center for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity receives information about numerous student research internships, paid and unpaid, from institutions throughout the United States.

The National Science Foundation funds a large number of research opportunities for students through its Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. Learn more about the program and current opportunities.
