Goal of these sessions:
To give you a broad overview of CommonSpot and a general idea of how to do basic website authoring. These sessions are to just get you started. There are a lot of things I don't cover because of time restrictions. These "advanced" topics will be covered in future training sessions or in Help Hours which are described below.

RSVP:
If you are able to attend, please RSVP back to me so I know who will be attending - this helps me so I can get your permissions set-up on the website and get the proper amount of training manuals printed.

After Training:
Once you have been through this session, dedicated one-on-one CommonSpot help hours are available. This session is pretty fast paced, and if you don't catch it all this time, it's ok - that is why we have the one-on-one help.

SiteImprove is a service we use to monitor broken links and typos on the website. This 1-hour long training session is for existing CommonSpot website editors and will cover:

  • How to make sense of the SiteImprove Report
  • How to view typos and broken links in the Report
  • How to find the reported typos and broken links in your dept. website and fix them
  • What to do if you can't fix a typo or broken link

Advanced CommonSpot Training is 3 hours long.

For Who?
Advanced CommonSpot Training is available for everyone who has already been through CommonSpot Basic Training and wants to know how to do more advanced features and have a better, in-depth understanding of how CommonSpot works.

When
See the schedule in the right-hand column on this page

What's Covered
Advanced Training works with static webpages and elements/widgets. It doesn't cover anything new with News/Events or Faculty/Staff, which are the database-driven portions of your department's website, and are updated via their "pop-up" data managers, though the Rich Text Editor is also used in these Managers.

  • Rich Text Editor
    • The Styles/Formatting Menus
    • Inserting Tables
    • HTML View and Tag Menu
  • Page Layout Elements
    • Bookmarked Content
    • Tabbed Content
  • CommonSpot Menus
    • The Blue and Gray Menus
    • Breadcrumb Reports Utility
    • Left-Hand Slide-Out Menu
  • Registering External URLs
  • Online Forms
