Overview

Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes that happen in living organisms. Education and skill development in this area will help to prepare you for further studies in medicine and pharmacy as well as careers in biochemistry and related disciplines. Chemistry majors choosing this concentration are typically interested in attending medical, veterinary or pharmacy schools or graduate school in biochemistry.

The field of biochemistry is interdisciplinary by nature. Among other things, you’ll need to have knowledge of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics and an appreciation for the interrelationships between these disciplines. You’ll learn about topics recommended by the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
