Overview

Gender Studies investigates how gender and sexuality function and shape our lives and experiences. Completing a minor in gender studies will help you develop a comprehensive understanding of humanity that can be applied to both your professional and personal life. Through discussion, reading, research and co-curricular programming, you’ll explore how gender and sexuality are constructed across cultures and over time.

As you learn and explore, you will work to raise awareness and transform the university and local community through informed action.


What You’ll Learn

As an interdisciplinary minor, courses span a multitude of departments including criminal justice, sociology, English, psychology, anthropology, history and political science. Through a minor in gender studies at UW-Superior, you will:

  • Analyze and examine identities and expression of gender and sexuality, cross-culturally and historically
  • Examine how social structures and institutions perpetuate systems of inequality
  • Understand the intersection of gender with other relations of power, such as race, sexual orientation, class, nationality, ethnicity, age and religion
  • Understand and evaluate different types of feminist action
  • Engage in feminist action to effect social change
