About

Greg is a professor of music and he has served as Jazz Program Director since 1997. He is active as a performer and composer in jazz, classical and rock idioms. Greg has composed for jazz ensembles, orchestras, woodwind ensembles, symphonic bands, percussion ensembles and chamber ensembles. He recently premiered four new works for younger musicians.

Greg’s compositions Sway and Music for Four Saxophones and Percussion were performed at the prestigious 2003 World Saxophone Congress. His jazz solo work is featured on recordings by the University of Texas Jazz Orchestra and the Big Time Jazz Orchestra. He has been a featured classical soloist with the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra and the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra. He is the founding director of two rock tribute bands: Duluth Transit Authority (Chicago) and Show Biz Kids (Steely Dan). On campus, he leads the athletic band Full Metal Jackets. Greg’s jazz compositions are published by Increase Music, Inc. 

Greg received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, his Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati and his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (1981).
