UW-Superior announces plans for new baseball and softball complex

The University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics are proud to unveil plans for a new, state-of-the-art baseball and softball complex that will serve as the on-campus home for Yellowjacket baseball and softball.

Funded with $14.97 million from the State of Wisconsin’s 2025-27 Capital Budget, this transformative project will provide modern, high-quality facilities that will enhance the student-athlete experience, benefit curricular activities and serve the broader community for decades to come.

Located adjacent to Wessman Arena along 28th Street, the new complex will feature:

  • Premier artificial turf and playing surfaces
  • Dugouts, bullpens and batting cages
  • Spectator seating for fans and families
  • Field lighting for extended accessibility

“This project represents a significant investment in our student-athletes and athletic programs,” said Nick Bursik, UW-Superior director of athletics. “We are grateful to our state representatives and partners across the Universities of Wisconsin for recognizing the value this project brings – not only to our campus, but to the entire region. These fields will elevate our programs and create a hub for competition, recreation and community engagement.”

The university is working closely with both the State and Universities of Wisconsin to finalize the project timeline, with a targeted completion by the 2027-28 academic year.

For Yellowjacket coaches and athletes, the new complex marks a long-awaited step forward.

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to train and compete right here on campus,” said Melissa Fracker, head softball coach. “We are grateful to everyone who played a role in this process and we can’t wait for the future.”

“This project will drastically enhance the student-athlete experience,” added TJ Oakes, head baseball coach. “From consistent practice times to access for extra training, having a home field on campus will allow our athletes to grow and thrive like never before.”

In addition to state funding, UW-Superior will launch a fundraising campaign to support additional amenities and features that will further elevate the facility and the student-athlete experience. The campaign will include donor recognition opportunities, including a donor wall and naming rights for key spaces.
